Most platforms support both internal and external marketplaces and seller and buyer hubs. Most provide adequate support for data sellers, buyers, and operators. The biggest distinctions are found in the unique features each offers. (See \u201cShort Product Profiles\u201d below).<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, we\u2019ve created a framework that sheds some light on the nature of data exchange platforms. (See \u201cProduct Framework\u201d below.) The Y axis in the framework below represents the primary focus of the vendor, while the X axis represents one aspect of their data architecture: whether they are platform-agnostic or not. However, Databricks is pursuing an open strategy to data sharing, but today its Delta Sharing offering is best used with Databricks Unity Catalog and Databricks Lakehouse. Snowflake has reduced the need for all parties to use its product to support data sharing, but one party still needs at least a Reader account, which can be created by the data provider if needed. Amazon is not listed because it doesn\u2019t offer tools to help data operators stand up a data marketplace, as far as we know at this time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Specialty vendors.<\/strong> The specialty vendors all support all types of data marketplaces, but their go-to-market strategies differ slightly. Harbr, Narrative, and Revelate target data providers who want to create a modern data storefront with all the bells and whistles. Dawex focuses more on creating data ecosystems for industries, countries, regions, and governments. Informatica only supports internal data marketplaces; its product serves as an extension to its data catalog.
